BARREL SERIES: Punters Corner Wines 2004 Coonawarra
Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel sold for an amazing $33,198.75 at the
9th Annual Barrel Series Auction on Sunday 16th October 2005. The price was not only the highest paid on the day (the runner up
being $24,118.75) but also becomes the record price ever paid for
a barrel since the Barrel Series auctions commenced in 1997.
Once bottling and packaging have been
finalised, 10 cases of the wine will be headed to Melbourne and
the other 10 cases to Queensland. Tim White from the Financial
Review described the wine as "Dark and fruitcakey smell, cedary
with flake tobacco, ultra slick tangy currants, very Coonawarra.
Long and mouth watering to close 94/100. Campbell Mattinson
from the Winefront Monthly said "Distinguished, distinctive,
a rock in its own place. Soy, salt, blackcurrant and lead
- fascinatingly perfumed - it carves through your mouth like a tannin
master, leaving fruit and acid in its wake. A polarising style,
I suspect. I like it 90/100". The wine was made by contract
winemaker Peter Bissell who recently won the Qantas/Gourmet Traveller
WINE, Winemaker of the Year Award.

PETER BISSELL: was described
as a 'winemaking magician' by Andrew Caillard MW when he took out
the title of the Qantas/Gourmet Traveller WINE 2005 Winemaker of
the year "he belongs to an enlightened movement of winemakers who
see Coonawarra as an intricate palette of regional colour".

HAYLEY MUIR: Hayley began
work with us at the beginning of October 2005 as our new Marketing Manager

TOP 100 WINES: Punters
Corner 2002 Spartacus Reserve Shiraz was awarded a Gold Medal and
a Blue Gold Medal in the Sydney International Wine Show. The wine
was selected in the TOP 100 Wines in the wineshow where 2000 wines
from 13 differenct countries around the world were tasted. This
now places the Spartacus in a truly international wine market.

HALLIDAY'S TOP 100: Punters
Corner Spartacus 2002 Reserve Shiraz was selected in James Halliday's
TOP 100 wines in the Weekend Australian on November 20th 2004. James
Halliday said "This year's has been the most memorable of all
Top 100 tastings. The high point was the 2002 vintage, which
right across southeast Australia produced superb red wines in seemingly
endless volumes" The Spartacus was rated 96points
and James Halliday said of the wine 'While the 2002 vintage was
good in Coonawarra, it was better elsewhere in South Australia,
but you wouldn't know that looking at this wine. Deeply coloured,
the potent, penetrating bouquet leads into lusciously abundant mid-palate
blackberry and spice, balanced by fine tannins and faintly smoky
oak on the finish.
